GIA Report – Loud Love Jewelry

Loud Love Jewelry is one of the few retailers who comes with GIA certification. The rules and laws have been changing market conditions: although previously deception or malicious intent was frequent in diamond exchanges, today there are official procedures and documents that certify and authenticate the quality of a diamond.

The 3 Questions about Loud Love Jewelry Diamond Certification

Commonly known as a Loud Love Jewelry diamond certificate, a Diamond Qualification Report is an official evaluation of the different distinguishing qualities of a diamond. Each diamond is unique and has its own distinctive elements, something like our DNA or fingerprints. The characteristics to take into account are the dimensions of the diamond, its clarity, its symmetry and a few additional characteristics. Each Diamond Qualification Report is a document dedicated to the certification of a single, specific loose diamond. In addition to the aforementioned features, the document typically includes a unique Report Number, a Laser Enrollment of the Registration Number, and Unique Security Features to prevent possible fraud.

  •  Why
We should never accept a diamond without a Diamond Qualification Report, which serves as a testament to the quality and authenticity of the diamond we want to buy. Don’t be embarrassed, this is your investment. If it is not offered, ask for it. If they don’t provide it, buy elsewhere.
  •  Who
Today the industry leaders in Diamond Grading Reports include the Gemological Institute of America ( GIA ), the Belgian National Laboratory ( HRD Antwerp) and the International Gemological Institute ( IGI ). All of them employ certified gemologists to thoroughly investigate and perform consistent laboratory examinations of the diamonds that are presented to them for evaluation.

The Gemological Institute of America – GIA

The GIA is the world’s largest US-based non-profit organization dedicated to diamond education, research and appraisal. The GIA introduced diamond certification in the industry in the 1950s. Since then, GIA’s International Diamond Grading System ™ has become the most recognized international standard for grading diamonds. Among all the laboratory reports and services that the GIA offers, two are the most commonly issued: The GIA Diamond Qualification Report and the GIA Diamond File.

Staff report of the GIA Diamond (GIA Diamond Grading Report®): Commonly known as the diamond certificate, the official name given by the GIA to this laboratory evaluation reports Diamond Rating. For those diamonds that weigh 0.15 carats or more, the GIA issues a comprehensive Diamond Qualification Report. This report analyzes not only the stone’s carat weight, colour, clarity, and cut ratings, but also points out inclusions and imperfections in the stone using standardized symbols. Because no two stones are ever exactly identical, mapping a diamond’s clarity characteristics serves as a fingerprint in the event the diamond is stolen, lost, or resold.

GIA Diamond Dossier®: For diamonds weighing between 0.15 and 1.99 carats, the GIA also issues a diamond dossier. The file certification includes a tiny laser inscription of the report’s serial number along the diamond belt. This report assesses the same characteristics as the diamond certificate except for its clarity characteristics.

The International Institute of Gemology – IGI

Founded in 1975, The International Gemology Institute (IGI) is the largest independent laboratory providing qualifications and evaluations of diamonds and fine jewelry. The IGI is proud to be the only international certification laboratory owned and controlled by a central governing body that ensures the consistency of its rating reports worldwide.

Located in numerous cities around the world, including Antwerp, New York, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Tokyo, Bangkok, Dubai, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv, the IGI issues more than one million reports a year. These reports include diamond grading reports, fancy diamond reports, identification and appraisal reports, and authentications and testimonies of the origin of diamonds. In addition to certified score reports, IGI also offers laser enrollment services, diamond appraisals, and fancy diamond courses through the IGI School of Gemology.

For more information on the IGI and its rating reports, it is recommended to visit their website.

The nomenclature of diamonds is strictly identical in all countries, the international standard being defined by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the latter, as well as the HRD (Belgian national laboratory) and the International Gemological Institute ( IGI ) in Antwerp, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris ( CCIP ) are the reference organizations. They are known for their seriousness and integrity since, in the face of the increasing demand for certified diamonds, technical advisory offices have multiplied.

The criteria indicated in a diamond certificate

A certificate is the diamond’s identity card, that is its objective quality criteria, its own characteristics. This identification requires in-depth analysis in a laboratory.

The observation equipment is the most sophisticated. Weighing is carried out on an electronic carat scale (precision to one-thousandth of a carat).

It is measured to a hundredth of a millimetre:

For the round stones

  • For round stones, the diameter is measured on several axes and the certificate mentions the smallest and largest. For example 6.51 to 6.65 mm.

For fancy shaped diamonds

  • For fancy diamonds, the sides are measured.

For all the ways

  • Whatever the shape, the height of the cylinder head is indicated to the table.

Diamond analysis

Purity

The diamond is observed with a binocular loupe (40x magnification) to look for the inclusions and define their degree of purity. During this study, its defects (excess facets, quality of polishing, the peculiarity of inclusions, type of girdle, etc.) are reported. All the information necessary to complete the identification of the stone appears in the area of the certificate called “Comments”.

Color

The colour is analyzed by contrasting it with that of standard stones. The spectrophotometer, connected to a computer, also makes it possible to define the exact colour of the diamond.

Fluorescence

Ultraviolet light checks the fluorescence of the diamond. Fluorescence can be faint (“slight”), moderate (“medium”) or strong (“strong”). When the stone is fluorescent, it becomes more or less luminescent under the effect of UV rays.

The proportions of the diamond

Proportions and finish are analyzed when placing the diamond in a profile projector. A mirror system allows the projection of the enlarged image of the diamond onto a branded glass holder. The difference between the proportions allows determining the percentages of the table, the crown and the pavilion with respect to the diameter. This calculation ends with the assessment of symmetry: “very good”, “good” or “unusual”.

How to Read a Diamond Rating Report

Loud Love Jewelry diamonds accompanied by an authentic Diamond Qualification Report issued by the GIA, HRD or IGI. These qualification reports document the characteristics and qualities of a specific diamond. Below we provide a description of each qualification report and explain the terms and evaluations found in a typical diamond certificate.

GIA Diamond Qualification Report

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the most prestigious and internationally recognized gemological laboratory. GIA diamond grading reports always include the issue date, report number, and a laser record if the diamond has been laser engraved.

  • Shape and Cut Style
The shape of the diamond as seen from above (round, oval, heart, pear, etc.) and the cut style, or order of the facets (brilliant, modified brilliant, emerald cut, etc.).
  • Dimensions
Reports the dimensions of the diamond in millimetres. For round diamonds, the dimensions are listed as “(smallest diameter – largest diameter) x depth”.
  • Carat Weight List
the weight of the diamond in carats. One carat equals 1/5 of a gram.
  • Colour Level
Evaluates the absence of color in the diamond when compared to a colorless master stone. A Color Scale is provided for reference in all reports.
  • Clarity Level
Evaluates the absence of inclusions and marks. Inclusions are internal characteristics while marks are external. This level is determined by examining the diamond under a 10x magnification. A Clarity Scale is provided for reference in all reports.
  • Cut Level
Evaluates the quality and workmanship of the diamond cut. The diamonds are examined face up. The cut level appears only for round brilliant diamonds in reports issued from January 1, 2006, onwards. A Color Scale is provided for reference in all reports.

    • Finish Classifies the polish of the diamond surface and the symmetry of the positioning of the facets.
    • Polished Evaluates the smoothness of the diamond surface on a scale from excellent to poor.
    • Symmetry Evaluates the contour, shape and alignment of the diamond facets on a scale from excellent to poor.
  • Fluorescence
Evaluates the light emitted by a diamond when examined under long-wave ultraviolet rays. The range is from “none” to “very strong”. Low fluorescence is generally preferable because high fluorescence is associated with lower quality and lower value stones.
  • Comments
Include any other relevant features not mentioned on another site.
  • Diagram
An approximate illustration of the shape and cut style of the diamond as viewed from above and below. Symbols representing clarity characteristics (inclusions and markings) are listed on the diagram according to their size, type, and location. Symbols can be identified using the Symbol Code.
  • Proportion Diagram
An illustrated profile representing the diamond’s proportions.

IGI Diamond Report

Using standardized diamond grading methods, the IGI offers professional diamond grading reports for natural loose diamonds. Loud Love Jewelry each diamond evaluated by the IGI is analyzed by several gemologists who use only the latest equipment to accurately describe the characteristics of the diamond. IGI Diamond Reports always present the issue date, report number and include a special security stamp.

The IGI Diamond Reports analyze the same information as the GIA Reports, but without including a ratio diagram. Instead, the IGI provides specific ratio measurements, and ratio levels rated Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, or Excellent.

IGI Cut Levels
The IGI is very transparent in its Diamond Cut levels. Its levels obey the following criteria:

IdealExcellentVery good
Table width53-6052.5-63.551.4-63.5
Crown Angle33-3632.7-36.331.7-36.8
